Dr Rima Lamba

Chartered Counselling Psychologist

Rima is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who specialises in maternal mental health and well-being. She has a special interest in exploring how women’s mental health, reproductive, racial and cultural histories intersect and impact identity, experiences and relationships in the perinatal period. She sees individuals and couples presenting with a range of issues including postnatal depression and anxiety, birth trauma, adjustment to pregnancy and parenthood, transitional difficulties in the parenting journey, perinatal loss and bereavement, physical health difficulties and body image issues, low self-esteem, attachment difficulties, re-emerging childhood and relationship difficulties, as well as developmental, relational, interpersonal, racial and intergenerational trauma. She is particularly skilled in thinking about resources, support networks and transitions and how these may be negatively impacted for those living away from their country of origin.

Over her career Rima has worked in a variety of settings, including the NHS, charity, education and private sector, and was a lead clinician in an Eating Disorders team before leaving the NHS and setting up her own practice.

Rima tends to work in an integrative style, blending theories and models of therapy. Her work is informed by Psychodynamic and Attachment models, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Narrative and Systemic thinking. Rima has also trained in Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), which informs (along with attachment and systemic thinking) her work with couples.

This approach is also combined with a gentle focus on feminist concepts, which involves reflecting on positions of power in society, exploring how women and mothers are positioned in society and the impact this may have on their mental health. She is a warm and passionate practitioner with many years’ experience working with diverse communities including in particular the South Asian community.
