Dr Teresa Sarmiento
Clinical Psychologist / Parent Infant Psychotherapist
Teresa is passionate about supporting mothers and fathers at such a crucial time in their lives, when becoming a parent can be exciting, but also challenging and overwhelming. She has extensive experience working with parents experiencing antenatal or postnatal depression or anxiety, difficulties adjusting to parenthood following a traumatic birth or a previous loss. She draws on various theoretical models such as psychodynamic, attachment, systemic and narrative therapy.
Teresa has a special interest in supporting parents concerned about their attachment with their babies or worried about the impact of their own difficult childhood on their parenting. She is particularly interested in cultural identity, race, ethnicity and all forms of difference, which are fundamental to her clinical practice. As a native speaker, she is able to offer therapy in Spanish and has a private practice in South East London. At present, Teresa is offering appointments over the phone or online (Zoom).
Teresa is chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS), is a member of the BPS’s Division of Clinical Psychology, Faculty for Children, Young People and their Families and Faculty for Perinatal Psychology. She is also a member of the Association of Infant Mental Health and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
